All applicants will be processed with an MVA check, a criminal history check, and a check of minimum education/experience requirements. The following are minimum qualifications that the applicant must possess:
- 21 years of age (18 years of age for Corrections and Civilian)
- High school diploma or GED recognized by the Maryland State Board of Education
- Must be a U.S. Citizen with 10 years of verifiable U.S. Residency
- Possess a valid driver's license with no more than 3 points
- No convictions for DWI/DUI
- No PBJs for DWI/DUI within the past 3 years
- No criminal convictions on record
- Any Probation Before Judgment on a criminal record must be expunged prior to hire date
- Visible tattoos are permitted as long as they are not on the hands, face, head or neck and are not offensive, indecent, extremist, racist or sexist. Exception is one band tattoo on the finger

- Written Test (Average score of 70% or higher)
- Background Interview and Comprehensive Investigation
- Oral Board Interview
- Polygraph Examination
